Great, eclectic menu with plenty of well-made traditional Western fare, but also something for everyone, including vegetarians and kids. We had fish tacos, salad with local greens and heirloom tomatoes, and rhubarb panna cotta for dessert -- all delicious. We sat on the deck outside in the shade of the big pine tree with hummingbirds zipping around overhead, and our kids enjoyed running around on the lawn and playing in the sandbox nearby. The service was very friendly and professional. So happy to see this historic place back in business. We'll be back for sure!

Had such a great experience, from beginning to end! Music was amazing on a Tuesday night, food was great, but overall, the bar staff was so much fun. Thank you to Lindsay and Susie, the bartenders. Special thanks to the owner, Vickie. They made our honeymoon so amazing, and made us feel so welcome. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone or even just to stop by and have a drink with their amazing staff. Thank you Wagon Box. We will definitely be back!!

My uncle recently was married here. It was absolutely beautiful and quite peaceful, as well. The setting is picturesque and the cabins are the perfect little escape right along the creek and pond, not too far from the restaurant, but far enough. The sole issue (and it's a big one) is with the service.
First off, the place is not even close to appropriately staffed. The two days we were there, there were a whole of three people I saw working: two older women and one young man (he never seemed to be doing anything other than glaring at us, though, so I can't really confirm whether he was actually working). The two women were noticeably flustered the entire time and as a result, every request seemed to be really burdensome. No one helped set up the wedding and during the wedding, rather than manning the bar (which NEVER seemed to have anyone present at it to serve drinks), they saw it more important to kick the bride and groom's family out of the bunkhouse area, where they prepared everything during the day. They rudely rushed everyone to get their belongings out of the building DURING THE RECEPTION! It was the most inappropriate behavior. Also, when I ordered an alcoholic beverage at the bar, the bar tender (who was hardly ever actually tending the bar) said she thought no one here was supposed to be drinking (there were a number of Bill W.'s friends present). I personally don't think that's an appropriate thing to say when you are tending a bar that is stocked with alcohol. If no one was drinking, why do you think it was requested of you to staff a bar? To be fair, the staff stated that the bride and groom had not booked the bunkhouse space and there were other guests present. However, given the proximity to the reception (it was literally in the back-yard area of the bunkhouse) all the guests assumed we could use the facilities. I felt bad when I was told it wasn't included. I was made to feel I did something wrong. My recommendation here is that the owner's never rent the outdoor area without including the bunkhouse facilities, even if it increases the overall cost. This way, you'll never have to deal with the awkwardness of the situation we encountered.
The experience only got worse from there; every interaction was so harsh. I (and my family) were all made to feel as though we were only in the way. The next morning, a number of us decided to have breakfast at the restaurant. We came as two groups, with a total of only about 15 people, but you should have seen the reaction on the server's face. She was unbelievably rude and unwelcoming. Then, to top it off, another woman came in screaming from the other side of the restaurant - "DO THEY HAVE A RESERVATION!?" Just ask us next time, okay. Why make a spectacle? If it's that inconvenient to serve literally the ONLY people at your restaurant, then just say the word. I am always happy to take my money elsewhere and be treated with respect. The initial server ended up being dismissed from the table by another more veteran server who, despite her initial rough demeanor, was actually quite pleasent once everyone's attitudes dialed back a bit. She was very on top of it and took good care of us as far as food, drinks and bills went. The food was delicious and the portions were huge. I definitely left with a full stomach.
There is so much more to say, but I won't harp. I was just so taken aback by the whole experience; it was really disappointing to be treated so poorly. They have an amazing place here with great potential, but they really need to make some staffing adjustments. Also, if you're going to take on weddings, you need to fully commit. Get a coordinator on staff and some packages in place. It will make your lives a lot easier and make for a much better experience for the bride and groom. After all, it's supposed to be their most special day and if you can have a role in making that a reality, you should put all your effort into it. I always hope owner's read these reviews with an open mind and take honest feedback to improve where possible. I hope to return here sometime for another stay, maybe to catch them at a less frantic time, and have a more pleasant experience.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kathy A.Sheridan, WY1104Aug 31, 2016
We spent our anniversary today in Story and had lunch at the Wagon Box. The atmosphere is so awesome and has such a rustic charm. The service was great, the food was good. We walked the grounds and look forward to renting one of the cabins in the near future. What a great place for some well needed R&R and enjoyed our peaceful day! Thanks for a great day.

Worst I've ever had in this area. They are not worth the trip. Food & service was atrocious.

We first ate at the Wagon Box in the late 80's when we spent most weekends and holidays in Story. Recently our time in Story has been isolated to a week or two during the summer. Over the years we have seen the other Story restaurants go through ups and downs, but the Wagon Box has always had the same consistent high quality food, service and value!!
Tonight had the prime rib and excellent, as always!! Great service as well. By far the best restaurant in Story.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jessica H.San Francisco, CA2610720May 19, 2010
The fiance and I don't do birthday gifts but rather take the other out for a night somewhere. Since we're currently in Wyoming I wanted to go camping. It's too cold to camp so he found this little cabin here in Story.
It was super cute and remote and PERFECT. It's right on a little pond with a porch swing and walking distance to the bar that has the most awesome Happy Hour. I can't remember how much we drank (that's how awesome the specials were) but our tab was basically nothing.
We ate lunch and dinner there and the food was actually awesome. The wine selection was also impressive. I hope to go back here again one day. Highly recomend it to anyone looking to have fun in a small little town for a night.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - K8e O.Albany, OR0262Dec 4, 2016
Wow! The menu has been completed revitalized for the better. Larger selection than ever before. The prime rib in the cheesesteak sandwich was the most flavor and delicious I have EVER had! The outdoor seating area has a great atmosphere. The only thing that would have made this a 5 star rating would have been a more attentive waitress. We were consistently ignored.. it took a ridiculously amount of time before our order was taken, then tables that came after us were served food long before us, and she never checked on us again after our food was finally delivered. We even had to go inside to ask for the check.

Worst place ever to eat, very limited menu, they were out of most items listed, warm beer. I had a BLT that wasn't edible, way salty bacon with white iceberg lettuce. They attempted to serve it on Texas toast, horrible sandwich. They served it with a bag of chips, really. Stay away from this place. We ate on 8-11-18. We were told they are under new management, why not keep the past menu? The new one sucks, poor selection of choices and out of many of the items.
